Car cake

October 27, 2008 By: Min Category: 3D modelling, Fondant cakes 16 Comments →

Firstly, let me wish all my Indian friends and visitors a very “Happy Deepavali”. Don’t you love all the Petronas advertisements for our festivals. The latest one, for Deepavali, really touch my heart. Watch the video here. When I see the old house in the ad, it reminds me of my long lost classmates when I was in primary school in Sitiawan, Perak.

Anyway, I’ve been quite busy lately, with classes and a few orders. Just delivered this cake to Syikin just now, it’s a cake for her son who loves cars. Thank you, Syikin. This is my first time making a car cake, I must tell you, it’s not easy ! I’m not too pleased with the car, macam cacat la kereta tu  (some flaws). Hope to do better if there is a next order..

Ok, time to go now.. dying to catch up on the latest series of “Desperate Housewives” that hubby just downloaded. Catch you later !

Guitar cake

October 21, 2008 By: Min Category: 3D modelling, Fondant cakes 15 Comments →

A request from Faizah, to surprise her hubby on his birthday party (wish my hubby is into guitars like this, wouldn’t it be cool ??).

I’m so glad she loved the design. So worried that she wouldn’t like it. Thanks Faizah !

The guitar took me a few hours to make.. probably about 3 hours. I made it one day earlier so that on the day of pick-up, I can concentrate on just covering the cake and doing the simpler designs. Well, this is my version of a Gibson SG Guitar..couldn’t do much since the size was too small. After all, it’s only a 7 inch cake :) .

Making this cake reminds me of my younger days.. I even had a Metallica CD, can you believe it ? And 10 years forward, I am the typical middle-age lady who cooks and bakes. And love flowers ! I’m becoming like my mom, help !!

Mc Donald cake

October 12, 2008 By: Min Category: 3D modelling 20 Comments →

My sister requested a corporate cake, for her to include in her company profile. I couldn’t think of any corporate logo which can be done freehand. The ones with writing would need edible image, to get the fonts right. In the end, I came out with this McD 25th anniversary cake, which I think does not look corporate or formal enough :-| .

I must say it’s a case of mental block, ran out of ideas on what to put on the side of the cake. Thank God for the little star sprinkles..

Looking at the cake now do make me feel a little hungry.

The fries was done using the clay extruder.. I’ve written about the gadget before, look under ‘my gadgets’ category. The burger… personally I like the one I did before more. My daughter commented that this buns doesn’t look roundish enough. Well, I believe her. Children never lie.

I’ve got loads of things to do today, families are coming over for lunch. Both my hands are still aching from teaching at Cake Connection yesterday.. I’ll post the pics on that soon. Just a gentle reminder to all Malaysians (and myself), do not overeat during the Raya Open Houses today !

A cake for a freelance photographer

September 18, 2008 By: Min Category: 3D modelling, Fondant cakes 6 Comments →

A very lovely girl, Hanim emailed me requesting a cake with a camera for her birthday man. I was quite hesitant to accept, not knowing if I would be able to make the camera, Nikon D300 to be specific. In the end, I accepted. There’s always a first time for everything. You’ll never know if you don’t try, right ?

So, after a few laborious hours, and one rejected camera, this is the final product. Written on top of the cake - “Grow up, Ben !” .

All in all, it was not very difficult to make. The first camera was rejected by my Sirim guy (hubby) who said the shape look more like an old compact camera. So, I guess the one below should look like a digital one. The only thing which is a bit tricky is to ensure the lense doesn’t drop. So I had to use some tooth pick to support the lense portion. Hope the birthday boy doesn’t bite into the lense  . I’ve already reminded them on this, don’t worry.

I made extras for the cake (chocolate cake with ganache.. yummy!), I think I’ll have a bite now, with some hot coffee.. Thanks for reading, and thanks again Hanim for the order ;-) .

Salam,
