Applesauce
I think the use of applesauce is quite rare in our community. Maybe because we don’t plant apples here , we eat all that we buy and don’t have extras to make into applesauce. Interestingly, a lot of recipes uses applesauce. It adds moisture and is less fat.
You can make your own applesauce, see theĀ picture
(from Treehugger.com). Click here for the real recipe. You may eliminate the cinnamon or just use white sugar if you like. It’s up to you. You can have it plain without any other flavour. Try to boil the apples with the skin, as this has the most valuable thingy (phytochemicals) which is good for your health. Watch a Youtube video on how to make a basic applesauce.
The simplest way is to just buy your applesauce. You can find it in the organic section of your supermarket or at any organic stores at a reasonable price.
If you are health conscious, and would like to reduce the fat content in your baked products, try replacing half of the amount of butter with applesauce. However, with less butter your cakes might turn out to have a denser texture, so you may want to use cake flour instead of the all-purpose flour. Fruit purees such as applesauce can also replace oil in your recipe. Use 3/4 to 1 cup of applesauce to substitute 1 cup of oil. Bake until just done to prevent drying.
Keep trying until you find the right combination.
